FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI — Authorities have learned that another ejected person from a rollover crash on New Year’s Day near Campbellsport was also hit by a vehicle that dragged a young woman for three miles, reports TMJ4.
The events unfolded on on southbound U.S. Highway 45 at Sandy Road, north of Kewaskum.
A preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol may have caused a rollover crash that caused four people to be thrown from the vehicle.
The driver, a 19-year-old woman identified as Taya Grimes, was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle that was reportedly driven by 19-year-old Jatziel Encarnacion.
Although witnesses say Grimes may have been killed on impact, Encarnacion continued driving and dragging the victim for three miles. He later told authorities that he thought he was unaware that his vehicle had hit another person.
Encarnacion, who said he had a single drink across three hours, could face 15 years in prison if convicted of the charge of “hit and run–causing great bodily harm.”
Another person from the rollover crash who was hit in the head as he was standing up during the second crash remains hospitalized as of early Friday afternoon.
