FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI — A 19-year-old woman lost her life Monday following a pair of motor vehicle events that caused her to be dragged three miles in the Township of Auburn, reports TMJ4.
The incidents unfolded on a stretch of southbound U.S. Highway 45 at Sandy Road, north of Kewaskum.
According to the Fond Du Lac Sheriff’s Office, the young woman was initially driving a car carrying four other people when she lost control of the vehicle on a tight curve of the roadway known in the area for causing major accidents. Preliminary details indicate alcohol played a role in the vehicle struck a ditched and overturned, causing four people to eject.
The 19-year-old woman was subsequently hit by another vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man, who is believed to have been acquainted by the occupants in the first car. Authorities say the man continued driving after the impact, dragging the victim over three miles away from the original crash site before first responders arrived.
The male driver was later arrested and booked into Fond Du Lac County Jail.
Among the survivors include a 17-year-old Iron Ridge resident who was transported to the hospital for critical injuries, a 16-year-old Theresa resident taken to the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, a 17-year-old Milwaukee resident who was transported for minor injuries, and a 21-year-old Iron Ridge resident who was taken to the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
An investigation remains underway.
