News UPDATE: MCSO releases more details after driver falls asleep, hits 2 highway workers in Milwaukee’s south side

MILWAUKEE, WI — One of the two county highway workers who were hit by a vehicle early Tuesday in Milwaukee’s south side has been released from the hospital, reports WISN.

The accident happened on the northbound lanes of I-94 approaching College Avenue, shortly after 3:00 a.m.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, seven county employees were responding to a nearby broken guardrail when. Authorities indicated that a driver fell asleep behind the wheel and lost control of their vehicle before it hit a plow truck and spun.

While five of the seven workers were able to jump away from the veering car, one man was pushed on top of the guardrail and a second man was sent over it.

As of this writing, one of the patients has since been released from the hospital to continue recovering at home. No information about the condition of the second worker has been shared.

The driver, who did not display signs of intoxication, was cited for “inattentive driving.”
