MILWAUKEE, WI — Authorities have charged a 35-year-old Cudahy man with second-degree reckless homicide after a fatal rollover crash last Tuesday in Milwaukee’s south side, reports Milwaukee Journal.
The fatal collision occurred took place on December 12, in the area of South 27th Street and West Oklahoma Avenue, near Leon’s Frozen Custard in the Southgate neighborhood. Milwaukee Police responded to the scene at 9:32 p.m.
Officials say Jered Corn was driving an SUV at about 74 mph in a 35 mph zone when he ran a red light, causing a crash with a second vehicle. The impact caused one vehicle to strike a parked car and the other to slam into a concrete pole, which then toppled and damaged a second parked vehicle.
First responders arrived to find the SUV rolled on its side, and both Corn and his passenger, 22-year-old Sierra R. Hill, trapped inside the vehicle.
While Corn was rushed to Froedtert Hospital, Hill was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Milwaukee Medical Examiner’s office.
Following the crash, open intoxicants were found inside Corn’s vehicle, and he was found to have been driving with a suspended driver’s license. In addition to reckless homicide, he has also been charged with “knowingly operating a vehicle without a valid license causing death,” as well as “two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment.” He is expected to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on December 26.
