WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — A 29-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged following a pursuit and rollover crash last Wednesday, December 20, in Delafield that killed two 10-year-old boys, reports TMJ4.
The fatal collision took place on a stretch of Golf Road at Greywood Lane, just east of a large shopping center, shortly before 12:00 a.m.
A criminal complaint indicates a Waukesha County deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect, Paul Vinson, whose vehicle had no license plates while traveling on eastbound Interstate 94. Officials say Vinson took the exit onto Prospect Avenue, stopped his car just south of Golf Road, but then sped off as the deputy approached, prompting a pursuit.
During the chase, Vinson reached speeds of up to 90-95 mph and ran two stop signs. At one point, Vinson lost control of his vehicle, which traveled off the roadway and into a ditch, where it hit a culvert. The car then overturned and came to a stop on its passenger side. By the time that deputies were able to reach him, the vehicle had crashed, and four people were found on the roadway.
Two juvenile males, previously reported to be just 10-years-old, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
Among the four other occupants were a front-seat passenger, two backseat passengers, and Vinson. Officials say those occupants include a woman who sustained a collapsed lung, two girls who suffered brain bleeds and brain swelling, and another girl who severed an arm. Vinson also suffered a brain bleed and fractured vertebra.
While Vinson said he was “unsure” about having had any alcohol, he denied that he used any illicit drug. The complaint indicates marijuana was recovered from his vehicle. His driving record also shows he was never in possession of a valid driver’s license, and that he had “12 prior convictions for operating while suspended” from 2013 to 2022. He is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on January 12.
