MILWAUKEE, WI — Authorities have identified a 40-year-old woman who died following a single-car crash late Wednesday morning in north Milwaukee that left another person seriously hurt, reports CBS58.
Emergency crews were called to the scene near East Locust Street and North Richards Street, in the Harambee area, shortly after 11:30 a.m.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the woman was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a 34-year-old man. At one point, for reasons still unclear, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run off the roadway and strike a tree.
The woman, who was trapped in the wreckage following the crash, succumbed to her injuries.
The male driver, who was transported to a hospital for serious injuries, was arrested.
An investigation remains ongoing, but authorities believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the fatal crash.
