MILWAUKEE, WI — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and criminally charged after a reckless driving crash last Monday, May 1, that injured two other juveniles near a Milwaukee school, reports TMJ4.

The multi-vehicle crash occurred outside of Morse Middle School for the Gifted and Talented, near North 80th Street and West Mill Road, shortly before 9:00 a.m.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the teen was behind the wheel of a stolen Kia that was traveling recklessly and struck a school bus. A Milwaukee Public Schools pickup truck and a silver Mercedes SUV were also impacted.

A 15-year-old male passenger who fell out of the Kia and was dragged in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries, including a “crushed skull, fractured arm, and a brain bleed.” The boy was rushed to an area hospital where he remains “in a medically induced coma,” according to a complaint. His family said he is still relying on a breathing tube.

An 11-year-old student on the school bus was also transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the crash, Milwaukee Police said they arrested four teenagers. The teen driver, who had fled the scene on foot, has since been located and faces multiple charges, including “first-degree reckless injury, hit and run – great bodily harm, first degree recklessly endangering safety, [second-degree] recklessly endangering safety, drive or operate a vehicle without owner’s consent.” He is scheduled to appear in juvenile court.
