MILWAUKEE, WI — Two people have died following a single-vehicle collision involving a tree late Thursday in Milwaukee’s south side, according to TMJ4.

The accident happened at the intersection of 24th Street and Howard Street, in the city’s Southpoint neighborhood, shortly before 10:00 p.m.

An early investigation shows three 24-year-olds were traveling in a gray Toyota Camry which lost control while speeding. At one point, the vehicle veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree, causing the driver to eject through the windshield and onto a nearby residential lawn.

Despite life-saving measures, first responders pronounced two occupants deceased at the scene.

The third occupant ran from the scene on foot but was ultimately apprehended and arrested. It’s unclear whether they were seriously injured.

An investigation remains ongoing. The Milwaukee Police Department asks anyone with information to call (414) 935-7360. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS, or P3 TIPs.
