WALWORTH COUNTY, WI — Two people, including a child, were sent to a hospital Wednesday afternoon after a school bus was involved in a crash with a passenger car in the town of Lafayette, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

First responders were dispatched to the scene on Wisconsin State Highway 11 at Interstate 43 at around 3:00 p.m.

An early investigation by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office indicates an East Troy woman, 42, was operating a 2013 Hyundai Elantra when a “turning maneuver” caused the vehicle to strike a Durham School Services bus.

Authorities said a student on the bus and the East Troy woman were both transported to a local hospital. While the condition of the injured child remains undisclosed, the woman was said to have suffered minor injuries.

One other student was evaluated at the crash site for a headache.

A child who was traveling in the Hyundai was not reported hurt, and the driver of the bus, a 68-year-old man from Geneva, also reported no injuries. Following the incident, all remaining students were taken to Elkhorn Area Middle School and released into the custody of their guardians.

An investigation remains underway.
