DODGE COUNTY, WI — A police pursuit led to a single-vehicle crash Monday morning in Horicon that claimed the life of a 27-year-old man, according to TMJ4.
Authorities said the fatal wreck occurred on a stretch of northbound Horsehoe Road.
The events unfolded when the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a drunk driver in the area. Washington County deputies first spotted a driver matching the reported description of the suspect, but the driver failed to comply to a traffic stop.
The suspect also later fled a Dodge County deputy who attempted another traffic stop near the intersection of Wisconsin State Highways 33 and 67. Preliminary details indicate that the chase, which reached up to 100mph, had the driver traveling north on Horseshoe Road until he failed to negotiate a curve. Moments later, the vehicle entered and ditch and collided with a tree.
Responding deputies reported that despite life-saving measures at the scene, the male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officials noted that an “older style military grenade” or its likeness was found in the vehicle and had to be carefully removed.
Dane County officials also joined the emergency response at the scene. At this time, an investigation remains ongoing.
