News: Driver crashes car into median after fleeing traffic stop on I-41 near West Bend

WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI — A 17-year-old driver was arrested Saturday, January 27, after leading authorities on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash near West Bend, reports FOX 6 Milwaukee.

The accident happened on a stretch of Interstate 41 at the exit to Wisconsin State Highway 33, as the teen was navigating a turn some time after speeding away from a sheriff’s deputy.

Authorities said the fleeing vehicle had been traveling at nearly 125 miles per hour to elude the deputy. As the driver tried to make a turn, the car collided with a median and was thrown into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle, which became slowed by crash damage, continued to travel in the wrong way on WIS-33 before it ultimately. came to a stop.

The teen driver was placed under custody. Of the one adult and two juveniles who were traveling with the driver, the two juveniles received a citation for underage alcohol before being released to their guardians.

Officials learned that the teen had been convicted of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) in October 2023, and had been driving outside of license restrictions. On Monday, a $10,000 signature bond released the teen from custody.
