RACINE COUNTY, WI — Two drivers were evaluated for injuries Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on Wisconsin State Highway near Kansasville, according to Racine County News/Scanner.
The collision took place on a stretch of the highway (Durand Avenue) at Eagle Road, in the Town of Dover, just west of Kansasville Fire & Rescue Station. Kansasville Fire & Rescue Department crews and Racine County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the wreck, but preliminary details indicate a small Chevrolet SUV collided with the side of a westbound semi-truck with a flatbed trailer that was hauling lumber. The semi then came to rest on the roadway’s north shoulder.
While the SUV sustained significant front-end damage, investigators learned that the semi driver had swerved in time to avoid a head-on collision, which likely would have had a more serious outcome.
Both drivers, the lone occupants of each vehicle, received medical attention from KFRD personnel at the scene, but ultimately declined treatment or transport to a hospital.
Part of the roadway at Vandenboom Road and Highway 75 (Beaumont Avenue) was shut down as crews worked to clear leaking fluids and crash debris from the roadway.
By 3:20 p.m., all remaining Kansasville Fire units had cleared the area, leaving WIS-11 open to motorists.
An investigation by the Racine County Sheriff’s deputies remain open and ongoing.
