MILWAUKEE, WI — Two people were taken into custody and transported to a hospital Wednesday afternoon following a police chase and vehicle crash in northwest Milwaukee, reports TMJ4.
Milwaukee Police Department officials say the events unfolded on the 8900 block of West Hampton Avenue at about 2:30 p.m., when officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle believed to have been involved in a shooting.
While the driver initially stopped, they then fled in the vehicle, prompting a pursuit. At one point, while the suspect driver was trying to avoid a crash with another vehicle, the suspect vehicle collided with a tree at the corner of North 58th Street and West Keefe Avenue, in the Grasslyn Manor area.
Authorities ultimately arrested the driver, a 28-year-old man, after a brief foot pursuit. His passenger, 32, was also taken into custody. Both suspects were taken to an area hospital to be medically cleared, but no information regarding major injuries was reported. A firearm was also recovered from the scene.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review criminal charges in the case.
