MANITOWOC COUNTY, WI — Three people died in two separate crashes that occurred over 24 hours starting December 25, on a stretch of Interstate 43 in Cleveland, reports NBC26.

According to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, a two-vehicle accident unfolded on the northbound lanes of I-43 at Fischer Creek Road on Christmas Day.

A Chevrolet Suburban and a Chevy Tahoe were both heading northbound on the highway when, for reasons still unclear, the Suburban struck the Tahoe, causing both vehicles to lose control. The impact sent both vehicles into the medial, where they collided with a guardrail.

The driver of the Tahoe, a 60-year-old man from Manitowoc, was transported to Aurora BayCare for injuries considered non-life-threatening. His passenger, a 66-year-old woman from Two Rivers, was transported to ThedaStar to ThedaCare. Officials say her injuries were deemed to be serious but non-life-threatening.

First responders had the driver of the Suburban, a 36-year-old man from Green Bay, as well as a juvenile passenger, both transported to St. Vincent Hospital. While both of their injuries are considered non-life-threatening, two other passengers from the vehicle, Green Bay women aged 38 and 71, were both pronounced deceased on the scene.

A second fatal crash was reported Tuesday morning, on a nearby span of I-43 just north of County Highway XX. Authorities said a 19-year-old Sheboygan man was driving a car southbound in the passing lane when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle hit a guardrail, entered a ditch, and then slammed into a tree.

First responders pronounced the teen driver deceased at the scene.

Multiple area agencies assisted the MCSO in investigations, which remain open and ongoing.
