WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI — A driver was sent to the hospital Saturday, December 2, after their truck collided with a train on Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive in Slinger, reports WISN.
The Slinger Police Department said the incident occurred on the tracks near the intersection with Hartford Road. Officers, Slinger Fire Department crews, and Life Star Rescue personnel were called to the scene at about 1:13 p.m.
One witness told authorities that the truck was hit by the train after the vehicle traveled around the active railroad crossing arms. A preliminary investigation determined that the “crossing lights, swing arms, and bells” were all fully functional and active at the time.
First responders arrived to find significant back-end damage on the box-style delivery truck, which came to rest off the roadway, on private property nearby.
The delivery driver was also found in their seat and appeared to be unharmed, was transported to the hospital for an assessment. While they were determined to be not impaired, they received a citation for operator error. No fault on the part of CN Railroad was found.
