WAUPACA COUNTY, WI — Three people lost their lives Saturday night following a wrong-way collision near Weyauwega that left two others critically hurt, reports NBC26.
The fatal wreck occurred on an unspecified stretch of U.S. Highway 10, prompting a response from the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office at around 9:15 p.m.
According to authorities, a pickup truck was traveling westbound on the eastbound side of the highway. At one point, the wrong-way pickup collided head-on with an oncoming SUV.
First responders pronounced three people deceased at the scene.
One person who suffered “critical, life threatening injuries” was rushed to a medical facility. The driver of the pickup was transported to another facility for an unspecified “critical injury.”
The WCSO was joined at the scene by multiple other area agencies, including the Waupaca County Highway Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Weyauwega Police Department, Weyauwega Fire Department, Gold Cross Weyauwega and Fremont Ambulance.
An investigation remains ongoing.
