RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 27-year-old woman was critically injured Saturday night when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in northwest Racine, reports FOX 6 Milwaukee.
Racine Police say the incident occurred in the area of Douglas Avenue and Layard Avenue, prompting a response from officers at about 10:45 p.m.
A sequence of events leading up to the crash has not been released, but the woman was found with life-threatening injuries at the scene. She was rushed to a local hospital and then flown to another facility in Milwaukee.
While the involved vehicle left the scene before authorities arrived, a description provided by a witness helped officers locate the suspect shortly after.
The suspect, a 66-year-old man, was taken into custody after being questioned.
