MILWAUKEE, WI — One person died early Wednesday after fleeing a traffic stop and crashing their vehicle in northwest Milwaukee, reports FOX 6 Milwaukee.
The fatal wreck unfolded near Pine Lawn Cemetery on Capitol Drive, shortly after 2:20 a.m.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to pull over a driver seen traveling at a high rate of speed and running a red light at the intersection of Mayfair Road and Burleigh Street. Officials said that while the driver failed to stop, the deputy did not pursue the fleeing vehicle. Some time after, the driver crashed their car at the cemetery.
First responders arrived at the crash scene to find the driver and sole occupant unconscious inside the vehicle.
Despite life-saving measures administered by Wauwatosa Fire Department crews, the driver succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed as of this writing.
