MILWAUKEE, WI — Three people died early Friday following a high-speed crash on West Florist Avenue in northwest Milwaukee, according to TMJ4.
The accident happened in the 4300 block of the road at the intersection with North Sherman Boulevard, near Havenwoods State Forest. It was first reported shortly after 2:00 a.m.
Milwaukee Police Department officials said a 23-year-old man was driving a Toyota westbound at a high rate of speed. Moments after he ran the flashing red traffic light, the vehicle collided with a white Nissan heading being driven southbound on North Sherman Boulevard by a 28-year-old.
The victim driver, who was ejected from their vehicle during the crash, was rushed to a local hospital where they were later pronounced deceased. Two of their passengers, ages 31 and 28, also succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, who fled the scene on foot following the impact, was later taken into custody. He was transported to an area hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Milwaukee Police said the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review criminal charges against the driver.
