DODGE COUNTY, WI — An 18-year-old woman was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon following a major crash involving an all-terrain vehicle northwest of Watertown, reports WBAY.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said the accident occurred on a stretch of Wood Road, about three miles northwest of the city, at about 1:00 p.m.
An early investigation indicates the teen was operating the ATV westbound on the road when, for reasons still unclear, it veered off the roadway and overturned in a nearby ditch.
The driver, who was ejected from the vehicle, suffered serious injuries. She was rushed by airlift to an area medical facility, where her condition remains undisclosed. She has since been identified by the DCSO as Jillian Dunham, a Watertown resident.
Authorities said a helmet was recovered at the crash site, but the DCSO was still working to determine whether the victim was wearing it at the time of the wreck.
An investigation remains ongoing.
