WAUPACA COUNTY, WI — One person was fatally hit by a vehicle early Sunday while trying to assist a driver on County Highway W in the Town of Caledonia, reports NBC26.
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal incident occurred near the intersection with Brehmer Road.
Authorities have not released a sequence of events leading up to the crash, but the driver, who fled the scene before first responders arrived, was located shortly after and arrested.
An investigation remains in progress, but alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
The victim’s identity has not been disclosed at this time.
