MILWAUKEE, WI — A woman suspected of impairment was taken into custody Sunday night after fleeing a crash on Interstate 43 near Greenfield, reports FOX 6 Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred on the westbound side of I-43 near Exit 7 to South 60th Street. It was first reported at about 8:35 p.m.
A preliminary investigation determined that the woman was “slightly intoxicated” while driving when her vehicle hit another car. The woman then continued away from the scene without stopping
Deputies were later able to locate the fleeing vehicle and arrest the female driver, who faces charges pending review by the district attorney’s office.
While the driver of the victim vehicle reported chest pains following the crash, it was unclear whether they had to be transported to a hospital.
An investigation remains ongoing. Officials with the sheriff’s office said in addition to impairment, high rates of speed also contributed to the wreck.
