WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — A 20-year-old man was taken into custody following a police pursuit and multi-vehicle crash involving injuries Saturday in northwest Waukesha, reports TMJ4.
Waukesha Police said the crash happened on a stretch of eastbound Interstate 94 near Grandview Boulevard.
Preliminary details indicate one officer attempted to pulled over the male driver for “multiple violations.” Authorities indicated that when the suspect failed to stop, the officer initiated a pursuit but then terminated it some time after the fleeing vehicle entered the interstate.
At one point, the suspect vehicle made an “evasive maneuver across three lanes of traffic” and hit another vehicle, causing the victim vehicle to overturn. The fleeing vehicle then struck a second car, spun out, and ran off the highway before colliding with a tree.
The driver of the overturned vehicle, a 74-year-old woman, was rushed to a local hospital with several injuries. She was believed to be in stable condition at the time of the TMJ4 report. No one in the second victim vehicle was hit.
The suspect, who was placed under custody, was transported to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries but was believed to be in stable condition.
Part of the interstate was closed for an extended time during the emergency response.
An investigation by the Waukesha Sheriff’s Department, Waukesha Police, and the Wisconsin State Patrol was underway.
