MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A 9-year-old child was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after being hit by a vehicle in a West Allis crosswalk while riding a bike, reports WISN.
West Allis Police and Fire Department crews responded to the scene in the area of South 84th Street and West National Avenue, where the incident occurred at around 2:20 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate a boy was on a bike and using a marked crosswalk to travel across 84th Street when they were struck by the vehicle.
A witness who came to the child’s aid before first responders arrived said the victim appeared to have been hit head-on. Fire department officials confirmed the boy suffered a head injury, among other serious injuries.
West Allis Police arrested the driver, 73, under suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated at the scene after administering a field sobriety test.
An investigation remains ongoing.
