MILWAUKEE, WI — A high-speed crash Sunday night off Interstate 94 in Milwaukee claimed one person’s life and left four people injured, according to TMJ4.
The fatal collision unfolded in the 200 block of North 35th Street, just west of the I-94 westbound offramp. It was first reported at about 9:10 p.m.
Details are limited, but Milwaukee Police said one driver was exiting the freeway at a high rate of speed when their vehicle hit a curb and lost control. The vehicle collided with another vehicle, overturned, and slammed into a utility pole. The second vehicle was sent crashing into a building.
Authorities said the driver of the speeding vehicle, a 57-year-old man, was taken into custody. It’s unclear whether he was hurt but his three passengers, ages 45, 39, and 36, were all rushed to a local hospital with unspecified but non-fatal injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered fatal injuries. A passenger in their vehicle, 28, was transported to a local hospital with injuries considered non-life-threatening.
No further information has been released as an investigation remains underway, but the MPD said the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review criminal charges in the coming days.
