MANITOWOC COUNTY, WI — A 17-year-old girl and a 21-year-old woman were fatally injured early Sunday due to a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 10 near Reedsville, reports NBC26.
The accident occurred on a stretch of the highway (Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Highway) at County Road G, in the Town of Cato. First responders were dispatched to the scene just before 5:30 a.m.
According to a preliminary investigation, the 21-year-old woman was driving a Chevy Silverado when, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle veered past the center line. Moments later, it collided head-on with a Ford Escape driven by the 17-year-old girl.
The 21-year-old woman, a Menasha resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
First responders rushed the teenage driver to an area hospital, but she later succumbed to her injuries. Officials confirmed she was a student at Reedsville High School.
No further information has been released at this time, as an investigation remains in progress.
