WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI — A man was killed early Wednesday evening in a crash while fleeing police on U.S. Highway 45 near West Bend, according to NBC26.
West Bend Police Department officials said the collision occurred on a span of US-45 near Park Avenue, shortly after 5:13 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate Winnebago County officials had requested that West Bend Police check on an address associated with a suspect wanted for a shooting in Winneconne. While West Bend Police officers were responding to the location, they spotted the suspect’s vehicle and tried to contact the suspect in his vehicle, but he sped away, prompting a reportedly brief pursuit.
At one point, the suspect crashed his vehicle near the WIS-45 and Park Avenue intersection. Authorities said officers arrived to find the suspect deceased in his vehicle.
No other occupants or vehicles were involved in the accident.
Because the fatal crash happened during an encounter with West Bend Police, an investigation will be carried out by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
