MILWAUKEE, WI — A 41-year-old MPD officer was seriously hurt early Tuesday when their squad car was hit by another vehicle at a northwest Milwaukee intersection, reports TMJ4.
Milwaukee Police Department officials said the crash happened at North 35th Street and West Meinecke Avenue, in the city’s Metcalfe Park neighborhood, at about 1:25 a.m.
Preliminary details show the officer was driving a department vehicle southbound on 35th Street when the car entered the intersection with West Meinecke Avenue. Shortly after, it was struck by a speeding vehicle whose driver had ran a stop sign.
The impact of the collision sent the civilian vehicle onto the sidewalk and against a tree before a number of unknown occupants exited and fled the scene on foot.
The officer, whose squad car had spun and come to rest facing northbound in the northbound side of 35th Street, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They were transported to an area hospital.
