The fatal incident took place in the 5000 block of South 34th Street, near West Holmes Avenue, at about 6:30 p.m.
The Greenfield Police Department said officers were called to the area for a welfare check on a woman. The victim, 42-year-old Tracie Dorpat, was lying in the roadway when a responding officer, who did not see her, accidentally ran over her with a department vehicle.
After calling for an ambulance, the officer administered aid to Dorpat at the scene. She was rushed to a local hospital with injuries believe to be non-life-threatening, but was later pronounced deceased.
According to the GPD, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave as the incident is investigated by the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team and the Wisconsin State Patrol. An independent review is also being conducted by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
