MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A 42-year-old woman died Thursday evening, July 27, after being run over by a GPD vehicle while lying in a Greenfield roadway, reports TMJ4.
The Greenfield Police Department said the incident occurred in the 5000 block of South 34th Street, shortly after officers received a call for a welfare check on a woman at about 6:30 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate one officer was unaware that the female pedestrian was lying in the roadway when he accidentally drove the vehicle over her.
The officer rendered aid to the victim as he waited for an ambulance to arrive. Though the woman was rushed to an area hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, she was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities say the involved officer was placed on administrative leave as the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team and the Wisconsin State Patrol investigate. An independent review will also be conducted by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
