KENOSHA COUNTY, WI — A suspected intoxicated driver crashed his car into a Kenosha residence early Saturday, causing the vehicle and part of the home to catch fire, reports TMJ4.

The events unfolded at a house in the area of 60th Street and Pershing Boulevard. A Kenosha County deputy responded to the call at around 3:00 a.m.

The sequence of events leading up to the wreck were not specified, but the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department said Ronald Mello-Berrospi appeared to be impaired when he drove a car into the home.

One of the homeowners attempted to get the driver out of the vehicle, but was unable to access him due to the deployed airbags. By the time the deputy arrived on the scene, the vehicle was burning and flames had already spread to the living room.

The deputy was able to safely extricate the driver, who was arrested and transported to Kenosha County Jail. He faces charges of “OWI [Operating While Intoxicated] (1st), reckless driving endangering safety, operate without valid driver’s license, failure to keep vehicle under control, and passing in a no passing zone.”

Despite extensive damage to the house, no one inside was reported injured. Authorities have not released an estimated cost of the damages sustained.
