RACINE COUNTY, WI — One person was hospitalized with severe injuries Saturday evening after a vehicle crashed into Racine City Hall, according to TMJ4.
The incident occurred in the area of Center Street and 8th Street, at about 5:55 p.m.
Racine Police Department officials said a number of officers were on foot when they noticed one driver running a stop sign. The officers got into their squad cars and began pursuing the driver, whose vehicle was traveling at a “high rate of speed” and running multiple other stop signs.
After some time, the officers lost sight of the fleeing vehicle, but later learned that it had collided with the city hall.
The driver, who was left trapped in the wreckage, had to be extricated by firefights. The patient was then transported to Ascension All Saints and from there flown to a Milwaukee hospital.
Authorities said the city hall sustained significant damage, including several areas where large blocks were pushed into the structure, and a completely destroyed lower-level window.
