MARINETTE COUNTY, WI — A 54-year-old man died Sunday night after a rollover crash involving a utility terrain vehicle in the Town of Lake, according to NBC26.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and crews responded to the scene on a span of Right of Way Road.

Preliminary details indicate Joseph La Pierre, a resident of Porterfield, was operating the UTV northbound on the road. At one point, the vehicle traveled across the center line and into the gravelly area of the west shoulder. The UTV, which appeared to have overcorrected, lost control and then overturned in a ditch along the east shoulder.

La Pierre suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was found to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

His passenger, a woman whose identity remains undisclosed, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the wreck. Officials said she sustained injuries considered non-life-threatening.

An investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the MCSO, and the MCME remains underway, but alcohol and “failure to maintain control” are believed to have played roles in the accident.
