OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI — A semi-truck overturned late Wednesday, causing a significant chemical spill on County Highway N in the Town of Freedom, reports NBC26.
Members of the Appleton Fire Department’s hazardous materials team were dispatched to the scene at the intersection with Greiner Road, at about 10:05 p.m.
Authorities have not disclosed specific details regarding the cause of the wreck, but the semi-tractor trailer had been carrying a full load of an alcohol-based chemical, which was leaking onto the roadway.
Eight members of the Appleton hazmat team were assisted by Freedom Fire Department crews as they worked into the next morning to control the leak ad transfer the chemical to a separate tanker.
By 3:30 a.m. of July 6, more than five hours after the initial report, Appleton Fire Department crews had cleared the scene, and the semi-tractor had been righted and towed from the area.
No major injuries have been confirmed as of this writing.
