MILWAUKEE, WI — Two people died early Saturday after a wrong-way collision on Interstate 94 in west Milwaukee, according to TMJ4.

The fatal wreck occurred on the eastbound lanes of I-94 near 35th Street, in the Merrill Park area. It was first reported at about 2:30 a.m. and was followed by a closure of the eastbound highway until near 7:00 a.m.

An early investigation by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office indicates a 36-year-old man was driving an SUV against traffic when his vehicle collided head-on with a sedan driven by a 46-year-old man.

First responders worked to extricate the driver of the sedan out of the vehicle, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He has since been identified as Christopher Vancleve.

The driver of the SUV, Rei Reynosa, later died at an area hospital.

An investigation by the MCSO remains ongoing, but officials believe the wrong-way driver had entered the eastbound lanes in an area between the Marquette Interchange and North 13th Street.
