MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A 17-year-old girl faces several charges following a rollover crash early Sunday near Cudahy that claimed the life of her younger sister, reports WISN.
The fatal wreck occurred on the southbound lanes approaching South Pennsylvania Avenue, at about 2:00 a.m.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the teen driver, a Milwaukee resident, was driving at more than 110 miles per hour when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. Moments later, her car overturned and crashed down an embankment.
Her 14-year-old sister, who was in the rear passenger seat at the time of the crash, was ejected and left trapped and unconscious under the vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts from the teen driver and other Good Samaritans, the victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Two other passengers were transported to an area hospitals for injuries believed to be minor. It was unclear whether the driver was hurt, but after further investigation, authorities arrested the teen for suspected impairment, with other pending charges.
Charged with operating without a valid license – causing death, the teen appeared in court the following Thursday afternoon. Court Commissioner Susan Roth said her bail was set at $1,000 after considering the record and input from the victim’s family.
