MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — Two suspects fled the scene of a crash involving a stolen vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Shorewood, prompting area schools to go on lockdown, reports TMJ4.

The Shorewood Police Department said an officer had tried to conduct a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle at about 1:30 p.m., but its driver refused to stop.

While fleeing at a high rate of speed, the driver eventually crashed the vehicle. Two occupants from the vehicle then exited the vehicle and fled the crash site on foot.

To locate the suspects, a perimeter was established by multiple area police departments from Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Glendale, Fox Point, and UW-Milwaukee. As a result, several schools in the area were put under lockdown.

With the aid of a Milwaukee Police K9 squad, the suspects were later apprehended and arrested. By 2:30 p.m., the lockdown was lifted.

Authorities have not confirmed any major injuries in the event.
