JEFFERSON COUNTY, WI — A 41-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday night after a rollover crash that killed a passenger on Interstate 94 near Lake Mills, according to TMJ4.
The fatal wreck took place near Exit 259 to Wisconsin State Highway 89 at around 7:30 p.m.
An investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol indicates the suspect was driving a Chevy Equinox westbound when the vehicle started to veer off its course. After traveling onto the right shoulder, the male driver lost control, sending the Equinox across the entire westbound interstate and into the median. The vehicle was found significantly damaged after having rolled multiple times.
First responders transported the driver to an area hospital with serious injuries. His female passenger, 43, was ejected in the crash and pinned under the rolled vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.
All westbound lanes of I-94 were blocked off for nearly three hours during the response and initial investigation.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the suspect faces charges of “Operating After Revocation” as well as “Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death.”
