MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A 22-year-old man was arrested Friday after crashing a stolen car into multiple vehicles during a 12-mile pursuit in Wauwatosa, reports TMJ4.
The wrecks occurred in the 10400 block of West North Avenue, near Mayfair Mall.
According to Wauwatosa Police, officers initially spotted a stolen car, the keys of which were stolen during a West Allis burglary the day before, in the 10600 block of West Capitol Drive. As the vehicle headed westbound, one officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled, prompting an extended pursuit.
During the chase, the fleeing car hit a FedEx truck and two other vehicles. Though all the vehicles were occupied, no one was reported seriously hurt.
Officers with the sheriff’s department deployed stop sticks at two different points in the pursuit, which reached up to 91 miles per hour, but the driver continued to dodge them. After entering the wrong lanes and driving against traffic, the driver ultimately stopped in the area of Menomonee River and Mayfair, where he surrendered.
Authorities said the man had just been convicted of a felon for possession of a firearm the day prior and was on probation. At this time, he faces charges of recklessly endangering safety in the second degree, “vehicle operator flee/elude officer causing damage to property, and hit and run.”
The suspect has since made his first court appearance on Monday and is being held with a cash bond set at $25,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7.
