FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI — A 20-year-old Appleton woman died Sunday night after a collision on Wisconsin State Highway 26 in the Township of Waupun, according to NBC26.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal crash happened near Cattaraugus Road shortly before 5:45 p.m.
According to authorities, the young man was driving a passenger car northbound on the highway when the vehicle traveled into the southbound lane. Moments later, the car was hit by a southbound SUV driven by a 60-year-old Waupun woman.
The Appleton woman died from her injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.
The Waupun woman, who suffered minor injuries, was transported to Waupun Memorial Hospital.
Multiple agencies, including Wisconsin State Patrol, Waupun Fire Department, and Lifestar Ambulance, joined the sheriff’s office at the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing, but “speed and inattentive driving” are believed to have been factors in the accident.
