CALEDONIA, WI – A suspect who was responsible for causing a four-vehicle crash fled the scene and then returned, rear-ending a Caledonia police car, injuring themself on Monday.

This multi-automobile wreck happened before 8:45 a.m. in the 4900 block of Douglas Avenue, according to the Village of Caledonia Police Department. The officer had gotten out of their vehicle to investigate the collision when their car was rear-ended. The suspect is expected to be OK, only sustaining a “very minor injury after striking the patrol cruiser,” officials indicated.

The suspect, who was only identified as an 85-year-old Caledonia resident, has been given several citations for the initial collision and for crashing into the back of the patrol cruiser. The Department of Motor Vehicles is deciding whether the resident’s driver’s license will be revoked and if they are equipped to safely operate a vehicle.
