MANITOWOC COUNTY, WI — A car crashed and overturned into Devil’s River in the town of Cooperstown Wednesday afternoon, claiming the life of one person, according to NBC26.

The events unfolded in the area of Kvitek Road and Zander Road. Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene some time after receiving a call before 10:30 a.m.

Officials say a 2008 Saturn Vue was heading southbound on Kvitek Road when, for reasons unclear, it traveled off the roadway and entered the west ditch. The vehicle then traveled into Devil’s River, where it rolled onto its passenger side before catching on fire.

Responding deputies said they recovered one body inside the vehicle after the flames were extinguished. At the time of NBC26’s report, the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Officer was working to confirm the victim’s identity.
