OCONTO COUNTY, WI — A 78-year-old woman has died following a crash late Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 41 in Little Suamico, according to WBAY.
The accident occurred on the southbound lanes of US-41/141 at County Road S.
A preliminary investigation by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office indicates a 70-year-old Green Bay man was driving an SUV southbound on US-41 at a high rate of speed. At one point, the SUV struck the back of a car that had slowed to a stop as traffic was merging in a construction zone. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into the median barrier.
The victim, who was a passenger in the SUV, was rushed to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries, confirmed the sheriff’s office.
No one else in the SUV, including the driver and two women ages 52 and 40, were reported hurt.
The driver and sole occupant of the car, a 47-year-old Appleton man, was also not injured.
Authorities have not disclosed further information at this time, but the OCSO, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate.
