MILWAUKEE, WI — Two people, including a MCSO deputy, were hospitalized early Monday after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 43 in north Milwaukee, reports TMJ4.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said the collision took place on a stretch of I-43 between Keefe Avenue and Capitol Drive, shortly after 2:00 a.m.
According to authorities, deputies were responding to a rollover crash on the northbound side at Martin Luther King. At one point, a vehicle collided with one deputy’s squad car, which was parked in the area to block traffic from the scene.
Less than 15 minutes later, a second deputy’s squad vehicle that was parked for traffic control was also struck by another vehicle. The impact of that crash sent the struck car into a deputy who was standing in the vicinity.
First responders rushed the deputy to a local hospital with minor injuries. One of the striking drivers was also transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Few other details have been released, but the MCSO said both causing drivers are being investigated for suspected Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).
