WAUPACA COUNTY, WI — Two people were hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a crash involving a utility terrain vehicle in the Township of Iola, according to NBC26.
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office said first responders were dispatched to the scene on a private property at around 3:08 p.m.
Authorities learned a 32-year-old was operating the UTV when they failed to negotiate a curve, causing the UTV to overturn.
Neither the operator nor their passenger, 28, were using seat belts or helmets at the time of the accident. Crew members had to extricate the passenger, who sustained a fractured leg, from underneath the UTV. Both occupants were transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
An investigation remains ongoing, but officials said speed appears to have contributed to the crash.
