SHAWANO COUNTY, WI — An 81-year-old woman was killed Wednesday night due to a single-vehicle accident in the town of Hartland, according to NBC26.
The fatal wreck occurred on Town Line Road, just east of Wisconsin Highway 117. Officers with the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office and multiple emergency crews responded to the scene at 10:05 p.m.
Investigators said the woman was driving westbound on the road when she lost control of her vehicle. Moments later, the vehicle traveled into a ditch, hit a tree, and overturned before coming to a stop. Responding deputies noted the road was wet and iced-over at the time of the crash.
First responders worked to apply life-saving measures on the female driver and sole occupant, who was trapped in the vehicle, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing.
