SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI — A 69-year-old man was fatally injured Sunday night when he was hit by a vehicle following a holiday parade in downtown Sheboygan, according to TMJ4.

The incident occurred near New York Avenue and North 9th Street, just north of Sheboygan City Hall. Sheboygan Police Department officers responded to the scene at about 6:20 p.m., more than 30 minutes after the parade had ended.

An early investigation indicates the man was crossing the street on foot when he was struck by a four-door sedan whose driver fled the scene.

The victim was rushed to Theda Care Hospital in Neenah, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities were later able to locate the striking vehicle at an apartment complex in Sheboygan’s south side. Its driver, a 20-year-old man, admitted to fleeing the scene and taken into custody for “hit and run causing death.”

An investigation remains underway, but at this time police said they do not believe the crash was intentional.
