POLK COUNTY, WI — One person died Sunday afternoon after a two-vehicle rollover crash on County Highway G near the Town of Eureka, reports WEAU.
The fatal accident happened on a stretch of the highway (220th Avenue) about half a mile west of 210th Street. It was first reported by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at about 12:12 p.m.
According to officials, a driver in a Ford SUV struck a westbound Chevrolet car while trying to pass the vehicle on County Highway G. The impact sent the car into the north ditch, causing it to overturn and strike multiple large boulders before coming to rest on its roof.
Officials said a passenger in the victim car was ejected and died from their injuries at the scene.
At the same time, the SUV also traveled into the ditch for hundreds of feet before it also collided with a boulder. After coming to rest on its side, it caught on fire. All occupants of the SUV exited the wreckage before the vehicle was covered in flames.
No further information has been shared at this time, but an investigation remains underway.
