MILWAUKEE, WI — A 28-year-old man was suspected of operating while intoxicated Sunday morning after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 43 near north Milwaukee, reports WISN.
Deputies with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on the southbound lanes near West Capitol Drive shortly after 5:15 a.m.
Authorities initially received a call about a wrong-way driver who had entered the southbound interstate at West National Avenue. Video released by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation show the vehicle later heading northbound on the southbound lanes near West Capitol Drive.
Shortly after, the officials found the car wrecked and stuck between steel beams. First responders worked for over 40 minutes to extricate the driver from the rear end of the vehicle.
It was unclear whether the driver was injured or taken to a hospital.
The MCSO said the man faces charges following the incident, including OWI and recklessly endangering safety in the second degree.
