RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 20-year-old man faces charges after a multi-vehicle wreck that injured himself and two others in southwest Racine, reports FOX6 Milwaukee.

Racine Police responded to the scene in the area of Durand Avenue and Kentucky Street at about 9:00 p.m.

Authorities learned the young man was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Durand Avenue after he and his 29-year-old male passenger had just left Doobie’s Beer Joint and Sports Bar.

At one point, the wrong-way vehicle hit an eastbound vehicle head-on. The driver of a third vehicle tried to avoid the wreck but ended up hitting the second vehicle.

Fire crews worked to extricate the driver and his passenger, who had become trapped in their vehicle.

Officials said the driver of the causing vehicle, who was unconscious during the response, was airlifted to a local hospital. The severity of his condition remains undisclosed.

His passenger was transported to a hospital with a collapsed lung and broken femur.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 58-year-old man, suffered broken vertebrae. As of Wednesday, he remained at Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine.

No injuries to the third driver, a 21-year-old woman, were reported.

Officials noted all involved vehicles were totaled in the accident and had to be towed from the scene.

At this time, the wrong-way driver faces multiple charges, including “Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle Causing Great Bodily Harm.”
